Reply:Try Diana Wynne Jones. The Dark Lord of Derkholm and The year of the Griffin are good. Also A Sudden Wild Magic and Deep Secrets. They are fantasy. Barbara Kingsolver is another good writer, The Bean trees and Pigs in Heaven follow on from each other. Mary Lawson writes about northern Canada, her first one is Crow Lake.
