Are people able to perceive this difference?

I was thinking about the book Flowers for Algernon. The main character of the book is a mentally retarded man who wanted to be "smart" so that he could think about "smart things."

Does it really work that way in real life? Do the mentally retarded realize that they have a deficit? What about the person of "average intelligence" versus the "gifted?" Do they realize that they perceive things differently?

Are people able to perceive this difference?
each person in this world iz awarded vd some talent so people vd average intelligence when relize this they also see the talent in them.GOD has creatd each of us 4 something special that v usually realize later in our lives.

bt people realize the fact that they r gfted OR hv average intelligence..
Reply:I don't think Charlie actually wanted to be "smart" while he was retarded. He only got excited when they told him about the experiment, as anyone would do.
Reply:I work with children and young adults who have developmental disabilities and quite often they do realize they have a deficit of some sort. They make comments like " well since I have this disability" or "because of my disability".
Reply:Don't think so. People see things pretty much only from their own perspective and are blissfully unaware there is more :)
Reply:I think the more 'abled' person stigmatize and point out other people's disabilities which make certain people feel or see that they are 'less able' than others. What a pity.
Reply:kinda.. i think so, yes.
Reply:Yes it does happen with some
Reply:i guess that smartness is relative . retarted ppl think smart ppl r retarted and they r smart and smart ppl think retarted ppl r stupid and they r smart!
