What makes a person creative or intelligent?

I was thinking of this when I was watching "Flowers for Algernon". I guess a person is smart in their own way, but what separates "stupid" and "smart"? What gives us justification to classify a person? Is it IQ or something else?

What makes a person creative or intelligent?
Intelligence has to do with adjusting to your environment. The ability to survive and thrive when dropped into any setting has to do with coping and adapting skills. Intelligence is situational. An intelligent person on a farm may be road kill in an urban environment within 5 minutes and vice versa.





Creativity is not on a survival level, it's more about enhancement. Intelligence helps humans figure out how to feed, clothe and shelter themselves. Creativity helps human embellish the basics and make things beautiful or more useful. Creativity comes into play once the bare minimum needs are taken care of. Creativity can be transferred from one situation to another.





To me, IQ is a subjective scale to measure intelligence. I call it subjective because there is no way to standardize everyone's life experience. So the intelligence scale tool is created from a selected, finite group of life experiences to measure everyone. Because of the bias build into the tool, there will always be groups of people who score low, even though they are very intelligent in their own environment. Unfortunately for them, the IQ tool is not optimized for their existance. On the other end of the scale, you get people who score high on the IQ scale, but would be obliterated within seconds if they were dropped into an unfamiliar setting. Or who fail to do simple, everyday tasks.

Reply:I think be creative and be intelligence are 2 different things. I think that genius aren't intelligence : because The artist (painting writers ) is not who can write or paint but who through art give is vision of world (thanks to creativity.) Creativity is given by SUFFERING...
Reply:Intelligence or creativity is gifted by God. Man does not have any control on these things. It is wrong to say that today people are more intelligent than what they were 1000 years back. It all depends upon the circumstances in which one is living. Today the world demands Education and Creativity. So the mankind has adopted this need in their behaviour. That's why they are said to be intelligent than their ancestors. But it is wrong to compare the man with his progenitor because their needs were different.
Reply:The categorization of different levels of intellegence is essential in society. Those who are commonly characterized as being more intellegent or creative in whatever way are better suited to do jobs that require an intellegent individual. basically surgeons, chemists, and so on must be intgelligent to ensure the safety of all. Other jobs that do not require such intellegence are equally important and need other characteristic traits like, good personality, salesmanship, hostage negotiation skills, and so on each of us are different and intellegence and creativity are only a fraction of the different qualities to make a strong society, economy, and government.
