Which book to pick for english?

I have to read a total of 600 pages every nine weeks at my school. We have a list of books that we can read. I was wondering if anybody has read any of these books and what you think of them. Here are the books they I have picked to try to read:

The Black Rose (403 pages)

Lord of the Flies (200 and something pages)

Flowers for Algernon (210 pages)

Freedom Road (200 and something pages)

Tell me what you think of the book or books you read.....and be honest!!

Which book to pick for english?
The only book on your list that I have read is "Lord of the Flies". As you, I read it in High School for English class. I remember it being somewhat disturbing but readable. It's one of those books that, now that you mention it, I'd like to go back and reread.

Its thesis seems to be that humans are savages at heart. I have to wonder now how the story might have turned out if only the children had not attempted to form a government. In any case, I'm sure you wouldn't care about my ramblings on the subject. I hope you enjoy your reading and do well in the class.
Reply:Yep, I would go with Lord of the Flies too ... classic!

The others are not my cup of tea (so to speak)

although "The Black Rose" sounds ok... hmmmm...
Reply:Flowers for Algernon is a wonderful book- I read it when I was in school. I highly reccommend it!

I haven't read any of the others.
Reply:Not the algernon book, that one sucked.
Reply:The Lord of the Flies is good and there's even a spoof on an episide of the Simpsons, read that one.
Reply:Lord of the Flies was the only book I had to read in High School which I actually liked.
Reply:The two in your list that I've read are Lord of the Flies and Flowers for Algernon. I enjoyed both. "Flowers" was very moving. Both put people in unusual circumstances and it's interesting to see the development and outcome.
