I have a few questions about my English essay!?

First, where do the commas go in this sentence:

The story “Flowers for Algernon” and the movie Charly follow the changes of Charlie Gordon as he gets a surgery that takes him from stupid to smart.

Next, it's a formal essay, so should I have two spaces after each period, or not?

Lastly, what is a good substitution for "An example is..."

PLEASE help, and answer as many questions as you can. 10 pts to the person who answers the best, and first.

I have a few questions about my English essay!?
1. The movie "Charly" was adapted from the novel "Flowers for Algernon," which was a science fiction story written by Daniel Keyes. The story and the movie describe the life of Charlie Gordon, a mildly retarded janitor in his mid-thirties, who undergoes experimental surgery intended to enhance his cognitive intelligence.

2. No. One space after each period is the norm.

3. "For instance" and "a case in point" are good substitutions for "an example is."

Good luck on your essay.
Reply:your period issue: its personal preference whether you want 2 or 1 space. I am personally a fan on one. Looks more professional.

Also, saying "as he gets a surgery" is a little awkward. I would consider changing that.

The story “Flowers for Algernon”, and the movie Charly, follow the changes of Charlie Gordon as he gets a surgery that takes him from stupid to smart.

(Maybe--screw grammar)
