( %26amp; No, I Did Not Mean High School Musical ..... )

My school's Theatre department has done alot of wonderful productions in the past few years.. %26amp; I know there are many more out there.. anyone have any ideas?

We do about two musicals a year... this year being the one where we attempt three. =)

We've Done:

Oklahoma! - The Wizard of Oz - Oliver - Flowers for Algernon - Beauty and the Beast - Fiddler On the Roof - You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown -

%26amp; We're in the process of 42nd Street.

Anyone Have Any Ideas for High School Musicals/Plays?
Rent, Music Man, South Pacific, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Pajama Game
Reply:do romeo and juliet

we did that one a couple of months ago and it rocked
Reply:We did the Music Man and Bye, Bye, Birde when I was in high school. They were very big hits and it wasn't that long ago that i was in school. I hope that helps you out.
Reply:One of my favorites that we did when I was in high school was Mame.
Reply:the lion king, cats, or teenage mutant ninja turtles, you can do 'go ninja' by vanilla ice :) word to your mother!
Reply:Good musicals- large cast options:

Music Man

Bye Bye Birdie

Once Upon a Mattress

Guys and Dolls

Chicago
Reply:Rent, The Wiz, Wicked, West Side Story, The Music Man...

These are all plays that my school district has done. All 9th grade and above.
Reply:Aladdin, School House Rock, Rent, Romeo %26amp; Juliet, or other Shakespeare...
Reply:Arsenic and old lace, Harvey, a Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
Reply:I would agree with all of those, but I am suprised that I did not see "How to Suceed in Business Without Reaally Trying". However, since that show is about all men ruling the corporate world, switch the genders. Make the boy characters girls characters, i.e. Rosemary Pilkington becomes Anthony Pilkington. I saw it done this way last summer, and it was hilarious! It rocked to see women rule the corporate world, and have the men treated as secretarys and oogled after by the women. But here is a website that lists a whole bunch of scripts and scores that you can purchase the rights to, becase while Rent and others would be great to do, the rights ar not available to the public. So you couldn't get the scores, scripts etc...But whatever you do, dont do the Broadway Juniors. They are disgusting and blasphemetic on the sacred world of Musical Theatre
Reply:Grease, The Father of the Bride, Cinderella, Music Man, Sun Yat Sen, Death Takes a Holiday
Reply:Jesus Christ Super Star, A White Christmas, Singing in the rain, the sound of music, mam,
Reply:Seussical

Into The Woods

Little Shop Of Horrors

and

Sideshow. Its not well known, but its a wonderful show.
Reply:Those are good. "Into The Woods", "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and "Phantom of the Opr'y" are all appropriate for high school and good shows, also.
Reply:Wow!

Nice selection. What about something a little meatier, Sweeney Todd or Jekle and Hyde.

Or if they are a little unacceptable, there's other Rogers and Hammerstein's State Fair, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I. Something from Lerner and Lowe? Camelot or Paint your Wagon?

Then there is always Stephen Sondeheim.
Reply:There are lots of options, and many of the ones I would suggest have already been mentioned. The first one I thought of, however, hasn't been said yet, so I'll start my own list with that.

Little Shop Of Horrors

Grease

Guys %26amp; Dolls

Into The Woods - can be difficult musically, but is often toned down

West Side Story

South Pacific

The Pirates of Penzance - also difficult musically

The biggest problem with some of these is getting enough guys for the roles. Cross-dressing will work for some, but not all, of the shows.

For additional shows, you can check out the websites of the royalties companies (Samuel French, MTI, etc.)
Reply:Guys and Dolls!!!!

I love that one.
Reply:Peter Pan

Cinderella

Les Miserables

Sound of Music

Reply:what about grease, calamity jane, west side story, finnians rainbow, bye bye birdie....these are some of the ones our school put on...hope it was helpful!
Reply:the sound of music, west side story, and into the woods would all be good...
Reply:I can think of a few. Guys and Dolls is always good, can't go wrong with it. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is hilarious and a lot of fun to be in. Big: The Musical is a real good show, excellent music. West Side Story is real good too.
Reply:I recall a cute musical done by high school kids but don't know the exact name although it was based on Al Capp's comic strip of Dogpatch. It included all the characters from the Lil Abner comic strip, such as his gal Daisy Mae Scragg, Mammy and Pappy Yokum , Moonbeam McSwine, Marryin' Sam, and Appassionata. I believe is was based around the Sadie Hawkins Day Race. The cast had a blast and the costumes were the best! Whatever you guys choose just have fun!
