Flower for algernon vocabulary?
These words are all semi phonetic..just say them out loud and you will hear what Charlie hears.....

intelek == intellect

lesin == lesson

laffed == laughed

discoridged == discouraged

bandijis ==bandages

natcher ==nature

intristed ==interested

brede ==bread

experament ==experiment

amazed ==a maze

permimint ==permanent

That is a really well written short story, IMO. Thanks for the reminder. I'll pick it up again this weekend.
Reply:Charlie isn't a good speller, but the scientists want him to write his feelings, and what he hears, so in the start,he doesn't look up many of those words in the dictionary.

As he gets smarter, he looks up more of them, and his spelling improves.

Then, when he losese his intelligence, he forgets.
Reply:like they said, he was writing phonetically. Pay attention to how the spelling/grammar changes through the story--that's your key to what's going on with him.
Reply:Just read the words out loud, slowly. Charlie spells the words as he hears them pronounced.

intelek - intellect

discoridged - discouraged

brede - breed

amazed - a maze

permimint - permanent

...etc. By the way, that's a GREAT book. I had to read it for school last year and loved it. =)
