Oh yeah! I loved that book. It really is for the person who doesn't enjoy the science fiction genre. However, it is a difficult read since the subject's writing is substandard in the beginning then "improves" as his intelligence increases. The book is about a psychological doctor's subject who receives surgery that makes him smarter. However, he decides to become "dumb" again because he begins to see the jokes in his lifetime were on him and chooses to regret it. It's basically a book about self-denial. Oh yeah, the flowers are just a symbol of the main character's progress in his intelligence.
Reply:It's pretty good. Some of the writing is hard to read, just because of the style it is written in. I liked it; we read it for class last year. It's a bit odd at first, but it picks up. Happy reading!
Reply:it's wonderful, but it's also quite sad, especially at the end. make sure u've got a box of tissues.

God Bless!!
Reply:It is one of my favorites. It is sad though. It starts with this guy named charlie he is mildly retarted (lack of a better word) he works hard at a bakery, people are assholes to him because they think they can be, he befriends a women, he gets an experimental surgery done to increase his intelligence all the while writing in a journel about his ongoings. The journal shows him progressing over time intellectually. There is a mouse called algernon who hs had the same surgery as him but earlier. that is the jist read it theres lots more
Reply:It's a good book. I think it's about a story involving a boy and a beloved pet mouse.

I'll have to re-read it again. It's been 22 years since I've read it.
Reply:It's good. A man with a low IQ signs up for an experiment that may increase his intelligence. He also makes freinds with a mouse that's been through the same procedure.
Reply:Hmm. yeah it's sad. It reminds us of our humanity.
Reply:I only know the short version.

I think it is phantastic, because it makes you realize your own humble privilege of being cleverer than Charlie Gordon, the narrator.

Great read really!!!
Reply:I liked it when I was a kid. Quite sad though...
