"flowers for algernon"?
I'm sure when you read the book it will become clear. That was your assignment, wasn't it?
Reply:yeah this story is sad....

i think it's that even science can't "fix" all problems.....

also, that alzheimer's is a horrible disease....
Reply:Sad. Because when Algernon Dies, Charlie thinks the same thing will happen to him. Because he did some Research. So Later, Charlie loses all of his IQ and he dies afterwards.
Reply:A theme is a lesson you can learn about life. I think the theme would relate to changing who you are to please other people.
Reply:I have found 3 summaries for you to look at, click a link below to take you to a summary of the book.

THEMES

Major

The Theme of self-realization or an understanding of self.

This is the chief need for Charlie and it makes the book one with a universal significance. Although the situation in which Charlie finds himself is a bizarre one, with his rapid movement towards high intellect and an equally rapid regression, it gives him the mental capacity to analyze and voice his need for achievement, acceptance and love. He is also able to fulfill these needs and then accept his regression in a philosophical manner, though after much suffering.
