In Flowers for Algernon, why doesn't Charlie just go through the operation again at the end?

Charlie just regresses back to his original state, so there's no damage done to him. Another operation would have been okay, right?

Even though the operation was a "failure," Charlie had been intelligent for a good amount of time, and if he constantly went through the operation, he would be able to stay smart for the rest of his life (like medication).

Did you already ask this question? I answered an almost identical question about ten minutes ago. Anyway....the operation was a failure. Even if they performed it over again, Charlie would just regress again. Furthermore, he was happier when he was impaired. He was innocent to the fact that people were mocking him and being mean to him. He thought everyone was his friend. He was innocent. Also, Algernon died. It was possible that Charlie would die, too.
Reply:If I remember correctly, he didn't like being smart.
Reply:umm why would he go through all of that again? if you were him wouldnt you just rather be dumb and just have a fresh start?
