Help! Can someone help me with my english project about "Flowers for Algernon"?

Why is the following an example of situational irony: Charlie believes he will be happier when he is smarter?

Help! Can someone help me with my english project about "Flowers for Algernon"?
I think because when he actually does get smarter, he ends up becoming sadder than he was to begin with. The simple things that made him happy before he tried the medicine ended up being too simple for his pleasure afterward. Then after the therapy wears off, he ends up being less smart that he was to begin with. So the whole experience that was supposed to make him happier ended up making him sadder overall.

I kinda BS'd that one, but that makes sense to me.
Reply:In the story flowers for algernon Charlie believes that being smarter will make him better and happier when in reality becoming smarter only made him less happy and just complicated his life. Especially after realizing that after becoming smarter that he will eventually regress.

Irony of Situation, relies on the fact that the characters in the story are unaware of the irony, but the reader is able to perceive it.
Reply:Because when he's "smarter", he sees everything bad going on in the world around him, and finds out that it's not a very happy situation to be in, being in demand from everyone. It's basically one of those "ignorance is bliss" situations.

I liked this book.
Reply:I put that he thinks that when he becomes smarter, everything will be much better, but actually it is worse for him. He finds out his "friends" used him for their own entertainment. He got fired from his job because of it.

I got a 100% on it, I dunno if your teacher will give you one for you to though.

That was such a great and sad story.
Reply:When he becomes smart he is miserable. He never did know happiness.
Reply:Hmmm...not having other people do your homework for you.
Reply:ahw, i did that report last year, sucks huh?

sometimes being naive of things is better. charlie thinks he will be happier when he is smarter, but things get much more complicated. example: when you are little, it is so much better to just believe in the tooth fairy then have your parents explain everything

hope it helps :]
