What is the book "Twilight" about?

Soooo many people say it's good and I want to go buy some books so I was wondering if Twilight was a good book... what is it about? Vampires and stuff?

I'm also getting:

Flowers for Algernon

Catacher in the Rye

But anyways, this question is about Twilight. =D

What is the book "Twilight" about?
It's an awesome book about vampires, yes. It's a varation of the "Romeo and Juliet" story.

Flowers is EXTREMELY sad, but also good. "Catcher" is very deep. Look for the theme that Holden doesn't like changes %26amp; it will make sense and be enjoyable.

Great list!
Reply:Not familiar with "Twilight", but "Flowers for Algernon", by Daniel Keyes, is won of the great science fiction novels of all time. It is the story of Charlie, a retarded worker and Algernon, a laboratory white mouse and their role in a scientific and social experiment in the nature of intelligence. A beautiful, moving, thought-provoking story. I highly recommend it.
Reply:"Twilight" is a fantasy novel by Stephanie Meyer.

The premise of the story is that 17-year-old Isabella 'Bella' Swan moves in with her father in Forks, Washington on the Olympia (Olympic?) Penninsula. She used to live with her mother in Phoenix, AZ, but as her mother's current boyfriend is a baseball player, they are always away on trips around the country. Bella deciedes to move in with her father so as to free her mother from worrying about her when she is home alone.

Forks is a small town, as Bella finds out on her first day at school, where everyone seems to know her because of her father, police Cheif Swan. Bella is self-concious the entire time, but makes some friends within a couple class periods.

Sitting with her new friends at lunch, Bella looks around the lunchroom and spots a group of some of the most gorgeous people she has ever seen, but there is one who strikes her eye the most. She asks Jessica, one of the first girls she met, who they are. Jessica tells her that they are the Cullens: a group of teenagers adopted by the local doctor and his wife. The boy that she stares at in particular is Edward Cullen. But, says Jessica, she shouldn't waste her time with them, especially Edward. On the mention of his name, Edward glances over quickly, as if he had been listening the entire time.

When she gets to her next class, Biology, Bella learns that her new partner is none other than Edward Cullen. However, he remains standoffish and cold, eventually shooting her a look of pure hate before leaving class. She walks into the main office later only to find that Edward is trying (unsuccessfully) to switch that class. The next day, and in the following weeks, she didn't see him again.

He returns eventually, a few months later, in the dead of winter in Forks. He remains distant but interferes with her life: from preventing her from leaving the school parking lot so she could be asked out by one of her many admirers, to saving her life from an out of control car on the icy ashpalt.

By this point Bella is confused. Why would he take so much care to avoid her and pretend she didn't exist if he cared enough to save her life? Not only that, but the way he acts and interacts with the people around them don't seem quite human. From this point on however, Bella and Edward are continually thrown together, despite any attempts on his part to keep the distance.

"Bella eventually learns, from her friend Jacob Black of the Quileute (pronounced Quil-yoot) tribe [of the La Push Indian reservation]... that Edward and his family are reformed vampires who substitute animals for humans in their diet." (Wikipedia)

This knowledge only draws Bella in more, and when another vampire comes to Forks, things become more intense as the Cullen's true identity is at stake, along with Bella's life.

This book is a quick read, and at first it starts out a little slow, but it grabs you and drags you in almost immediately. Personally, 'Twilight' became one of my favorite novels right after I finished it, mosty because I could identify with much of what Bella was feeling and the themes presented. If you enjoy 'Twilight' (which you probably will) check out 'New Moon', which is the second book. The third book in the series, 'Eclipse', is due out August 7 of this year. The forth book ("Breaking Dawn") is scheduled to come out in 2008.

There is also a sister-book to 'Twilight' called 'Midnight Sun'; it's pretty much the events from 'Twilight', except from Edward's perspective. The (rough) first chapter is posted on Stephanie's website. It doesn't have a publication date, but it should be soon.

Happy reading!

Reply:Omg! It was the greatest book i ever read. It's abouta normal girl who met a handsome vampire who would protect her from anything, even his vampire family. When tragic strikes, you know who would be there to protect her. Start reading it! the nhew book, New Moon is out already!
Reply:Twilight is about love and sacrifice. The main character is human and she falls in love with a vampire, and it is basically the "getting to know them" part of the series. You discover things about Bella and Edward and how the vampires live. It is full of action, romance, and humor...plus all the awesome quotes you can handle! I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

If you enjoy Twilight, the sequel is already out (New Moon) and Eclipse will be released in August. Stephenie Meyer (the author) has chapter one of Midnight Sun (Twilight from Edward's perspective) available on her website.
Reply:Flowers for algernon is really GOOD. i loved that book. i read it while back and i STILL remembers everything that happens...usually books that ive read a while back are a bit hazy....so it's really good.

Twilight is like a horror chick flick except book-afied. and its not THAT horror-y. its just that the guy can turn the girl into a vampire any-freaking-time he wants. its a good read if you are looking for romance and stuff. i liked it. but i also thought that it didnt have content...

its a book for those times when you are bored out of your mind but dont want get up and be active ,dont want to sit and think about nothing and dont want to sit and think about INTELLECTUAL stuff either. (this book is about a vampire loving a girl but the girl isnt a vampire but she WANTS to turn into a vampire for his sake but he doesnt want her to...just read it.)

Catcher in the Rye- ihavent read...tell me how it is.
